PerformancePoint CTP1 - Persisting your Excel Add-In worksheet number formats

I'd like to say there was a really slick way of doing this, but I haven't found one yet.

In Performance Point the only measure that you can view using the Excel Add-In Matrix forms is [Measures].[Value] which is created as type double. No problem you would think, just change the format in Excel, hit Save Form in the PerformancePoint ribbon bar and there you are - sorted.

NO, not if you have also applied a matrix style to make your form look professional/pretty/readable.

It appears the only quick solution is to set matrix styles to None and format your cells manually (Hey you can still add colours - it just takes a bit longer Big Smile )

Something tells me you should be able to define your own matrix styles somewhere. I know I can define my own Pivot Table Style (should be the same thing) but I can't see it when I'm in the Performance Point form editor.

All comments, suggestions and pointing out that you've found a better way will be gratefully received.

Describe more how your modified/created pivot table style is not showing up in the matrix style ui. Probably you should post it to the connect newsgroup so the bug can be tracked properly. What you describe should be working.

For number format, what happens if you edit the number format for the cell style "Data Cell - PerformancePoint ". In any event, this is also a good question to be asking on the newsgroup so we can track it better. But in general, if you want formatting to be persisted in the matrix, using these styles or conditional formatting is the most reliable.

Note also you should be able to view other PerformancePoint measures besides "Value". Its just that PerformancePoint only creates a single measure by default. (Our assumption is you are using another dimension to give you more measures - like say Account) That said, if you use user entered MDX you can do almost whatever you want and we'll render the result.

1. When I create a new Pivot Table Style and save it as custom, I can see it in the Pivot table design toolbar, but not in the matrix styles list in the PerformancePoint menu.

2. I didn't know you could alter the cell style format, so thanks for that.

3. Yes, I do have my own measures created using definition business rules but you can only select the default measure when you create a matrix form (at least that is all I can see).

P.S. I will post it up on the newsgroup today, just didn't have time to yesterday.

Hmm then off hand I think #1 looks like a bug, I'll have to search and see if we've fixed it in CTP2.

#3 if you are using the "guided ui" aka Report Wizard, you're correct you can't choose a different measure. If you are using the "unguided UI" that is in the action pane, when you have the 4 areas Filters, Columns, Rows, Values. When you should get an available action of "select values" which lets you pick the measures.
