Illegal filesharers “Letter” Imminent” Part 1

Now anyone who knows me will be wondering where my response, comment or even a ranting blog is in relation to the recent announcement from the powers that be, ISPs and the music industry that - enough is enough - and a strongly worded letter is due to drop through the door of millions. Followed by a reduction in your internet speed if you do not cease this activity at once!

...

OK, pause and deep breath taken.
Let me just double check and confirm what I have written is true {goes off to BPI site to confirm..}

UK record labels’ association BPI today reached a groundbreaking agreement with major internet service providers (ISPs) and government on measures to help significantly reduce illegal filesharing.”

“To achieve this, in the first year hundreds of thousands of informative letters will be sent by participating ISPs to customers whose accounts have been identified by BPI as being used illegally.  In addition, under the auspices of Ofcom, the signatories will work together to identify effective mechanisms to deal with repeat offenders.

and a suitable comment from BPI Chief Executive Geoff Taylor:
Most importantly, for the first time ISPs will be required to work with music and other rightsholders towards a “significant reduction” in illegal filesharing.

.”

OK - where do I begin...
Many years ago I joined a debate when filesharing in US campus’ was rife and started to explode across the world that the ISPs can control this by doing a number of initiatives...
I was laughed out the room - “silly boy of course we can’t - nothing to do with us” hmmm

But you know what - before we carry on down this route of stopping these criminals - I have to address the balance here...

Filesharing does have an impact on the music business - fine we can address this (see Part 2) however it sickens me, disgusts me and typical of a country obsessed with greed, power and the almighty $. The government and ISPs step in to “fix” this issue - but does nothing to combat the child pornography and abuse that is rampant over the web and the world.
Why?
Simple, nothing to gain or money involved, why spend time, money effort and resource to something that has no financial value to them - DISGUSTING - just as I mention above - ISPs DO HAVE CONTROL and should start to have some morals to combat this rather than serve up facts that Jimmy in Edinburgh has now downloaded the entire back catalogue of The Proclaimers! As for the Government - don’t get me started there - we have to hope that David Cameron has more of conscious and drive to work out morality over greed!

I want everyone to think about this - especially Gordon Brown, the Government, BPI, Music Industry and most importantly ISPs.

never mind the classic:
“home taping is killing the music industry”
think
“Paedophiles and child pornography is KILLING children”

Let’s STOP that first???
