I never underestimate nor get surprised at the lack of understanding, direction or vision that some companies have when it comes to their Digital Strategies or Digital Marketplace.
Take Sanity down in Australia - The Brazin owned company (that also owns the Virgin and HMV Brand in OZ) re-launched their digital music service last week and with the help (or lack of help one would hope from Now Media) of an all new subscriptions service!
The sound of the rapturous applause and cheering seemingly drowned out by the sound of the Aussie Outback, tumble weed and kangaroos scratching!!
Perhaps over the weekend while driving along the motorway at 88 miles per hour, my flux capacitor kicked in and I am now typing this Blog on the newly released XP and glad that the Millennium bug didn't kick in the previous year and the Number 1 album is Kylie Minogue's Fever!
Apart from that yes - well done Sanity - a real digital revolution and step in the right direction..... to instant doom!!
I never understand why in 2008 that enough press, business cases, blogs etc.. have pointed, shown and proven that the WMA subscription service DO NOT WORK!!!
Perhaps Microsoft helped them pay for it?
Perhaps Now Media's Digital Strategy Team were bound and gagged while this was in the planning?
Either way - I am obviously in shock - as I'm going to end this post here (and not ramble on for another 500+ words) - however...
Looking forward to an equally impressive launch of Sanity's "get closer" music social network site - due to launch in.... 2016 - just in time to catch on to this social network phenomena!
Just incase you think I'm kidding see those liberal and open rules below.. (I particularly like the "excess download fee" Nice touch!!)
