So things are beginning to hot up now in the mobile application space as Google let out details of their apps marketplace along with their beta release of their eco system.
It has been reported that the process is very much like posting a video onto YouTube – if you are a developer you provide your details via the registration process, upload your app and a brief description – then push it out to the world.
Eric Chu – comments that - after launch an update will be made available that will support the commerce element of the marketplace – and then paid for content.

Key points are that Google have used the term Marketplace rather than Store – as a possible dig at their Apple counterparts – due in fact that Google are trying to create an “unobstructed environment” – however the doubts remain that with openness comes security – and this issue is certainly not going to pass quickly – and no doubt Apple will be waiting with a similar comment should such security concerns become apparent.
However, whether it’s a Marketplace, Store, Mall or Convenience Mart – there are big wins to be had here – with over 60million Apps already being consumed by apple users since July – and Apple expecting to have made a $0.5bn return by year end – this is no small figure – No wonder Steve Jobs said that the Apps store was one of the most exciting developments in Apple’s history.
Look at the new mobile devices and the platforms that are on there – no one has really embraced both the developer and OS this way before – so we are in a phenomenal change that suddenly unlocks your converged device into whatever you want and need it to be with apps that you want – rather than programmes that you neither want or need!
As a parting shot however – I’m looking here and thinking where is Microsoft Mobile in all this?? Where is their MobileStore? Big news when Nokia handsets installed Silverlight – OK..... just stopping there???
How about creating a store that allows Silverlight developers to create Apps for the new Touch phones (of course not the iPhone - but Tocca?) that can be downloaded via a similar Store / Marketplace concept?
I’m sure there are one or two Silverlight Developers that have a passion for Mobile and creating unique Apps?
Just a thought....
Until then we will enjoy the Android Experience (Beta Style...)
