Welcome to Filthy RIA

As first post here on Conchango’s blogs, is my intention to introduce myself and the topics that are likely to appear on this stream, that will make also easier to explain why I picked this name for the blog :)

My name is Christian Giordano and I’m here in Conchango because I like to use technology to create highly compelling user-experiences. I started to “play” with Flash in 1999 and at that time there was Flash 4 and no ActionScript yet, only Actions. I’ve always been interested on the looks of the things, especially when people interact with them, and for years my job has been across the two areas, strictly separated at that time but getting closer and closer each day, of Design and Development. Limits help creativity, but sometimes our creativity needs something else, for this reason in the years I studied technologies that permitted me to increase considerably the amount of visual interactivity of my applications, from Imaging Lingo to C++ but in particular with Processing (because, in an ever changing field, productivity matters!). I could spend some time talking about my Master in Interaction Design, my small achievement or things I did I’m proud of, but that is still “old stuff”, the future will definitely be more interesting!

So what will I talk about here? Hopefully, opinions and discoveries about the technologies I’m playing with and their eventual implications in the user, and developer, world. These technologies are gathered under the commercial name R.I.A., which stands for Rich Internet Applications, and might span from Flash, through AIR and Flex getting maybe to WPF and JavaFX, we’ll see!

Why filthy then? Filthy rich is inspired by the book Filthy Rich Clients and I consider it as a funny way to stress the fact that an UI might never be rich enough and that future technologies can only make them richer and richer!

I hope you will enjoy, chr
