I subscribe to a large number of newsletters to try keep myself up to date with all the latest technology updates as i have said before. After keeping a close eye on any mails coming from Microsoft for the out of band release of the internet explorer update and noticed my TechNet newsletter had arrived. It was all about Microsoft virtualisation and hyper v. This appealed to me greatly seeing as i am trying to advance my knowledge of all things virtualised. What really caught my eye from the letter was how Microsoft are offering discounts on the Microsoft virtualisation exam 70-652(Use the promo code USHYPERV at checkout to receive your discount) and free e-learning(promo code 9350-Y2W6-3676 ) on hyper v and Microsoft virtualisation. Now for anyone who has read this blog before(from Microsoft analytics i see there is one person outside conchango who does so thank you ;0) ) you will know i love doing Microsoft exams and haven’t done one for a while.
I registered for the free e-learning yesterday and had a brisk look through it and was quite impressed with the layout of the courseware and the covering of the absolute basics for the novice learner(even though they recommend at least a year and a half of experience working in Windows Server 2003 or Windows Server 2008 environments as system administrators) to the videos showing you how to install configure and manage your microsoft virtual machines. My knowledge at the moment is very strongly weighted towards VMware so will be quite interesting to hopefully be knowledgeable enough to compare the two and be able to apply the pro’s and cons to any of my future work and possibly write some blogs about it
I will definitely be going through it all properly when i have more time to apply to it and hopefully will try my chances at the exam early in 2009 as well as my 70-646 exam which has fallen on the back burner recently.
