Saturday marked the first Conchango Geek Event; an afternoon of eating & drinking at The Holly Bush pub in Hampstead. The turnout of 9, was pretty good considering the event was held North of the River and was the day after a Conchango Community Day.
Several interesting topics were covered; the purpose of DRM, how the public really use MMS messaging, the ins and (mainly) outs of outsourcing, the importance of User Experience in Product Development, how the French get a better Broadband deal than the British, iPaqs as Portable Media Centres, the dream pairing of BitTorrent and RSS and how more developers should fear the Grey Threat more than the Chinese or Eastern European one.
Afterwards, James Simmonds, Max Chong and I, being the most hardcore of the group, wandered down to Primrose Hill and decanted ourselves into The Pembroke Castle for a final pint while we discussed our plans for the next Conchango Geek Event; we drew up a list of venues, mainly garnered from my TimeOut Guide to Eating & Drinking and came up with the following list of potential destinations;
I'd like to alternate the venues between North and South because too many "Saaf Lahdoners" fear going North of the River. Who can blame the simple folk: they probably still believe the maps that read "Here be Dragons (drinking frothy mocachinos)". So maybe The Greyhound or The White Horse next time.
