Agile Software Development with Scrum for Team System: Overview

As we near the launch date for Visual Studio 2005 (and the Team System Beta 3 refresh) I thought it was about time I gave a progress update on the work Colin Bird, Stuart Preston, Susie Kablean and I have been doing on the “Agile Software Development with Scrum” Visual Studio Team System plug-in and hopefully get some feedback from the .NET / Agile community out there.

Stuart has been dealing with all the infrastructure requirements for Team System and the development environment (physical and virtual server builds), investigating various installer technologies, helping me out with some SharePoint site template customisations, general branding ideas and if that wasn’t enough – being my sanity checker when odd things were happening with my dev build. Colin and Susie have been working hard on the process guidance documentation and general usability and I have been working on the Work Item Types, Team Queries, Reports and SharePoint Template customisation.

We now have the first pass at the following artefacts:

Work Item Types:

Team Queries:

  • All Bugs
  • All Impediments
  • All Product Backlog Items
  • All Sprints Backlog Items
  • All Sprint Backlog Tasks
  • All Sprint Retrospective Items
  • All Sprints
  • My Bugs
  • My Impediments
  • My Sprint Backlog Items
  • My Sprint Backlog Tasks
  • My Sprint Retrospective Items

Reports:

  • All Product Backlog Items
  • All Sprint Backlog Items
  • All Sprints
  • Bug Count
  • Bug Champions League
  • Current Sprint Status
  • Delta Report
  • Impediment Report
  • Product Backlog Composition
  • Product Burndown Chart
  • Retrospective Report
  • Sprint Burndown Chart

I’ll go through the different Work Item Types, Team Queries and Reports in the next couple of posts.
