SQL Mesh update

Three weeks ago I posted a blog entry entitled SQL Server code repository on Live Mesh where I announced the creation (if that’s the right word) of a folder, hosted on Live Mesh, that anyone in the SQL Server community could get access and contribute to. Since then the uptake has been pretty good; we’ve got 53 members and that number has been rising every day.

Unfortunately the addition of new content into the folder hasn’t quite had the same level of activity; only a handful of those 53 people have uploaded any of their scripts into the folder. Hence, I’m reaching out to those 53 members or to people who intend to join in the future – let’s see what you’ve got to share! What’s the old adage? “You only get out what you put in” and that’s doubly true for a sharing and collaboration effort like this. I firmly believe that if people can get benefit from the folder then they will be more likely to make their own contributions – we just need a few people to set the ball rolling.

That’s not to say we don’t have valuable content in there already and I’d like to say thank you to all those that have contributed thus far. We have a script library that includes:

  • identifying failed agent jobs
  • creating time dimension tables
  • emptying SQL cache
  • showing date and time of last backup of each DB
  • showing all currently running queries
  • viewing all permissions for a particular user
  • an algorithm for calculating the date of Easter Sunday in any particular year

(that’s not a definitive list) plus we’ve got some really valuable SSIS scripting snippets (courtesy of SSIS MVP John Welch), an entire installable SQLCLR library of sprocs and functions, Analysis Services cache cleardown and more besides.

If you want access to SQL Mesh then remember all you have to do is drop me a line.

UPDATE: More added in the 8 hours since I posted this - hopefully the positive trend continues.
