PerformancePoint is dead, long live PerformancePoint

I heard rumours earlier in the week that PerformancePoint was going to be changing and colleagues had found various snippets of news online, but there are now details on the The Microsoft BI Blog - it looks like Planning is going to be discontinued (after SP3) and  Monitoring will be included in MOSS - makes sense with the new strategy / road map change and hopefully it will mean that Monitoring will be improved, it will also be interesting to see what the licensing looks like and further ProClarity integration too.

There is a video from Guy Wiesmantel giving more detail for the planning piece skip to 4 minutes.

Found this information from Cindi Howson at Intelligent Enterprise:

Effective today [23rd January 2009], SharePoint enterprise customers can download PerformancePoint for free. Conversely, customers who bought PerformancePoint with software assurance can download SharePoint for free.

This could open up a lot of BI opportunities for Customers who already have SharePoint as the licensing blockers / issues will be removed.
