Woopra is the new kid on the block when it comes to web analytics. It provides a similar service to Google analytics, except it does it in real-time. It actually shows you who is on your site right now, as it happens! The stats that are available give you granular detail about each individual that visits your site, from the country and town that they are browsing from, down to the resolution of the screen, the browser and the platform they are using to view your site.
One of the main features that Woopra offers is the live chat option. This is available from the Live! option in the program. You can see each person that is browsing your site on a real time basis and select Start Conversation to chat live with your chosen visitor. This opens a window similar to Live Messenger that you can communicate to your visitor by way of instant messaging. I have my worries about this feature, as I am not too sure that I would appreciate a message popping up when I am browsing a site to ask me "Do you need any help?" or "This is your Webmaster speaking!".
One nice touch is the map of the world that allows you to see where in the world people are that are logging on to your site. It shows a little white dot in each location, that pulses whenever they click a link to go to another of your pages.
The software is easy to setup by installing the client locally on your machine and adding a bit of JavaScript to the footer of the site you wish to track. When I did it, the results started to come in almost immediately.
Woopra was released in March 2008 and is still in beta release. The client is available for Windows, Mac and Linux. I have experienced some problems with it but they seem to have worked themselves out with the various updates that have been released lately.
Check out the clip below from GeekBrief.tv, which has an interview and live demo with the creators of Woopra.
The pricing surrounding Woopra has yet to be released, but they have confirmed that "Both free and paid plans will be available as soon as Woopra is officially released". I would imagine that the free version will either be resticted in the amount of features it has or the amount of page views it can handle, like the beta that is restricted to 10,000 pages a day.
In my opinion, this is the next step for web analytics. It is powerful gives great access to the stats and looks great as well. A few screenshots are available below for your viewing pleasure. Click the link below each picture to see a larger version.
