The life of EMC Consulting (formerly Conchango) Internal Recruitment Manager

No pressure....

So things seem to have gone well with my 1st blog (345 views and counting - I promise not all are my friends and family) so like the Scissor Sisters 2nd album there is alot of pressure for my 2nd blog to be as good as my 1st.

I thought I would introduce the rest of the HR team (I am trying to convince them to start blogging but not quite there yet).  There are 5 of us in HR - Kate Frost, Carly Jones, Michelle Lindsay, Sarah Cole (our new addition - welcome, you're off to a flying start) and myself.  I am trying to get a photo of the 5 of us, but you will have to do with one of Kate, Carly and myself for now (I am the one in the middle).

I decided I would tell you about our last Community Day in this blog, as it was a great day.  Once every 6-8 weeks we have a Conchango Community Day.  This means all our Consultants leave their projects for a day and come to our London or Egham office for a day of meeting, greeting, learning, presenting (internal and external speakers) and finally drinking.  I have been to 3 so far since I joined in July and have met lots of new people and learnt a great deal about our clients, projects, new technologies (Web 2.0, Vista, .Net 3.0), communities (Retail, Financial Services, .Net. Java, Agile, Technical Architecture to name a few) and how much fun the Conchango team like to have.

This day also included our Staff Workshop Sessions which are a great chance for HR to tell everyone about the improvements we are making, and also for people to suggest how we can keep getting better (thanks to everyone who took part in these).

The day finished with 1 or 2 (or 5...) drinks at our local in Egham, I left at a sensible time but from what I understand there were a number of people flying the Conchango flag to the end.

I look forward to the next one, especially as it is followed by our Christmas party, which I have been promised is a night to remember.....

The Community Days are really one of the things that makes Conchango so exceptional. Not only do they help you to stay sharp with your technical skills, but they also mean that you hear what other projects are doing and, more importantly, you get the chance to catch up with co-workers. There's some great people in the company that I stay in touch with via the Community Days.
